Getting ready for ICE 2013 By Erin J. , , Flexible Packaging Magazine
My trade show advice to you is to get your comfortable shoes ready, as it’s that time of year again – ICE USA 2013 is coming up fast, meeting in again in April 2013.
We all know thattake a lot of work and preparation leading up to the show, and then all of the chatting, showcasing and walking, and then all of the follow up work afterward. So I couldn’t help but wonder – how will you handle a trade show as an attendee?
Some come with an open mind and an open schedule, while others plan their appointment times down to hall/booth/time (the latter is typically me). Some are free to walk the show floor for the entire show, and some are tied to their booth the whole time.
It is my opinion that a successful show attendee would concoct a nice mixture of all of those approaches. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to stop to watch a demonstration or presentation that I happen upon, but can’t because I’m in a mad rush to get to my next scheduled appointment. Or that I’d like to just sit at our booth, not only because my puppies are screaming, but also because that’s a great opportunity to meet someone who’s walking past your booth.
My advice: You’ll want to make sure you have some key companies/contacts to visit, but also have somein your schedule to check out a technology you’ve stumbled across, or meet for a pop or coffee with someone you’ve met on the show floor, but have no set appointment with. Sometimes those chance meetings can be the most fruitful.
Whatever you do, allow yourself some time to wander, and also have a good chunk of preset meetings.
Good luck, and I wish you all a successful show!
