Adaptive process control solution improves asset optimisation
ENI S.p.A, a multinational oil and gas company has utilised multivariable model predictive control and optimization technology to help improve performance across multiple sites.
ENI implemented Aspen DMC3 with Adaptive Process Control technology in its Sannazzaro Refinery, to gain the benefits of advanced process control (APC) while reducing deployment and lifecycle maintenance costs.
When ENI introduced a significant new piece of equipment, the ENI EST slurry unit, which impacted all refinery operations, Aspen DMC3 helped to quickly bring all APC applications back to peak performance, with limited resources. ENI was able to expand its APC footprint to secondary units to maximise benefits at all refineries.
Adaptive Process Control allows for background testing without disturbing operations. As a result, highly accurate models are said to be easier to maintain as plants change over time, helping meet operational targets, eliminate complex and costly controller revamp projects as well as reducing new projects cost.
