“We want to make sure this technology is well represented at our Web Coating & Handling Conference,” says Craig Sheppard, executive director of AIMCAL. “The extrusion coating sessions will complement our traditional focus on vacuum coating, solution coating and web handling,” he explains.

Tom Bezigian provides technical, quality, troubleshooting, development, training, and expert witness services as an independent consultant in the plastics, packaging, film, sheet, extrusion and converting industries. He also serves as an adjunct professor of Plastics Engineering at UMASS-Lowell, specializing in extrusion and extrusion coating. In addition, he writes a blog for PFFC-Online and is the North American Contributing Editor for the German magazine, Packaging Films. Prior to consulting, he held technical and management positions at Cryovac, Mobil Chemical, Fortifiber Corp., James River Corp. and Felix Schoeller Technical Papers GmbH. He holds a U.S. patent on polypropylene release paper and is the author of the current edition of TAPPI’s Extrusion Coating Manual. He has a Bachelor of Science in Plastics Engineering from UMASS-Lowell as well as a Master of Business Administration from Bryant University.
Jim Cooper, senior research scientist in the Food and Specialty Packaging Group for The Dow Chemical Co., is its application development leader for Extrusion Coating. Cooper has been at Dow for 38 years and has been a member of its Technical Service Group for the past 25 years. He holds several patents related to paper, extrusion coating and extrusion lamination technologies. In October 2014, his presentation on Specialty Polymers at the AIMCAL Web Coating & Handling Conference earned an Honorable Mention in the Web Coating & Laminating category of the John Matteucci Technical Awards. A member of TAPPI since 1989, he has given numerous technical papers at its annual conferences and extrusion coating short courses and is a past chairman of its Extrusion Coating Committee and its Polymers, Laminations, and Coatings Division. He recently received TAPPI’s Division Leadership and Service Award. He has a Bachelor of Science from Southwest Texas State University.
