The metal packaging giant is understood to be closing the site due to overcapacity. The company said that it will be “actively meeting with all employees at the site to explain the proposal in further detail.
Unite Wales secretary Andy Richards said that the closure was a “body blow” to the manufacturing sector while Neath’s Assembly Member Gwenda Thomas said that it’s a “devastating blow” for the workforce.
A Welsh government spokesperson added that the closure had resulted from a downturn in global demand.
The site has been one of the area’s biggest local employers for 75 years. It makes lids for cans.
