Gold processing plant chooses non-nuclear density measurement solution
To improve the filtering stage of a mineral processing plant in Peru Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A. needed to find a solution to measure and control the slurry density in the discharge pipe line of a tailings thickener.
The Gold mining company chose the non-nuclear density meter (SDM) from Rhosonics for this measuring task and is now using the measuring output to control the speed reference of the pumps and closing and opening of automatic valves for recirculation of the slurry when the density is below the desired value.
Further automation of the filtering plant was realised using the SDM slurry density meter, which saves time spent on manual measurements and additionally increases the efficiency of the filters because of an adequate density at the tailings filtering stage. Another benefit is that the ultrasonic density meter of Rhosonics does not require any licenses, permits or specialised personnel.
Rhosonics has been providing non-nuclear density sensors for use in the mining industry since 2008. They help avoid damage to sensors caused by abrasive media and can be installed without intrusion into pipelines.
The SDM is recommended for the measurement of slurry density. Ultrasonic signals are sent through the liquid. The analyser model measures the acoustic impedance, with a special algorithm determining the actual density.
