Need Individual UPC GTIN Barcodes?

Array ( [post_title] => Need Individual UPC GTIN Barcodes? [post_content] =>

Over the years, one question I’m always asked is “how can I get single UPC barcodes, or get them in small quantities?”

There hasn’t always been a good answer for this – the choice has been to invest in a GS1 company prefix (confusing to many people and can be expensive), or to buy UPC codes from a third-party seller, not all of which are reputable.

As more and more small businesses want to sell their products via online systems such as Amazon, this has become a bigger problem than in. the past.

Thankfully, GS1 has stepped up and come up with a solution for even the smallest business. It is now possible to purchase UPC barcodes directly from GS1 US – even if you just need a single UPC code, you’ll know it is correct and legitimate.

Even better, a UPC barcode license purchased from GS1 US costs only $30 with no annual renewal fee – sounds like a great deal to me!

As your business grows, or if you already have a larger number of products, it still makes sense to look at acquiring a GS1 Company Prefix so you can build a larger number of barcodes. This page over at the GS1 US site shows how this works and includes the current pricing.

This graphic (from the GS1 US page) shows how you can calculate how many barcodes you’ll need. It is important to remember that the number of digits in your Company Prefix is related to the total number of SKUs you are going to have and that if you need to add GTIN barcodes to your secondary packaging, you need to take these into account as well.

You can learn more about GS1 barcoding for both primary and secondary packaging by downloading the ID Technology GS1 Barcode Guide.

At ID Technology we are printing huge numbers of GS1 barcodes every day – whether printing labels for primary packaging or on-line printing for secondary packaging with our Panther or ID Technology print/apply labelers or our FoxJet inkjet printers.

Do you need to add GS1 barcodes to your products or packaging? We’d love to help – contact us at 817-626-7779 or just use the form – we’ll get you connected with one of our experts right in your area!

Pantone Color of the Year – 2021

Array ( [post_title] => Pantone Color of the Year – 2021 [post_content] =>

Well, this is interesting (ok, slightly interesting, maybe), the folks at Pantone announced their Color of 2021 a while ago and it is actually two colors.

In this newsworthy development, the Color of 2021 is yellow (Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating) AND grey, (Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray).

What do you think? Exciting stuff? According to the Pantone site, the Pantone Color Institute combed the world seeking new color influences before coming to this decision.

How do you think 2021 compares to previous years?

So I guess we can look forward to a yellow and grey New Year.

Have a great Christmas and New Year – See you in 2021!!

Shipping Label and Packing Slip Automation

Array ( [post_title] => Shipping Label and Packing Slip Automation [post_content] =>

If your company has to ship products, there are a couple of things that always have to take place.

Print and apply the correct shipping label to the shipment and also make sure a packing slip (or invoice) is included.

The packaging slip can be folded and placed inside the package – either by hand or needing investment in automation – or fixed to the outside, again manually or automatically.

With the growth of e-commerce, just about every manufacturing company is needing to ship more items, making this an important area to improve efficiencies.

Our NEXTStep labeling solution, from Panther, combines the label and packaging slip into a single printed item, allowing the process to be automated – right at the point the label is needed.

As well as making things simple for your operators, because NEXTStep prints the label/packaging slip in real-time, right before application to the product, it eliminates any possibility of the label and packaging slip being mismatched or being placed on. the wrong package.

The Steps of NEXTStep

The beauty of NEXTStep is that the combination label/packing slip can be automatically applied to your package by our Panther applicator.

In this video, Tony Duran explains NEXTStep in much more detail and you can see it in action:

How could this concept help make your shipping process more efficient and reduce the probability of errors?

Print and apply labeling can be a challenge, with conflicting wishes.

More output at higher conveyor speeds, less downtime, better print quality – especially for GS1 barcodes, and make things easier for the operator.

Checking all of these boxes in one piece of equipment has been difficult in the past, but the brand-new ID Technology 258 label printer applicator solves all of these issues.

Designed to accurately print and apply a compliant GS1 barcode label to cases and trays, 258 uses ID Technology’s patented CrossMerge™ applicator. CrossMerge allows the labels to feed in the orientation to give lower print speeds and higher print quality, then changes the motion to apply the label in the best orientation for accurate and secure label application.

It is simple to set a pair of 258s for zero-downtime labeling

By printing the labels in landscape orientation, crossmatch maximizes the number of labels on the role parentheses twice as many in some cases) and allows the print engine to run slower than would normally be the case.

While CrossMerge is a large part of the 258 innovation, it doesn’t stop there.

The 258 print apply labeling uses a unique new operator interface – basically a single multifunction button, what could possibly be easier?

This ensures that even new or relatively untrained operators don’t have to learn a complicated HDMI interface, letting them be really productive right away.

To further help the operators, the innovative integrated mounting stand allows the complete machine to be rotated away from the conveyor. This ensures ease of loading new labels and thermal ribbons to the machine and keeping the operator away from moving conveyor parts.

The crossmatch module itself also pivots out of the way giving even more access for routine cleaning and maintenance.

Looking to reduce maintenance to an absolute minimum? Two 258 machines can easily be configured as a zero downtime pair – switching between machines as labels run out to keep production moving. Being able to swing the labelers away from the conveyor for replenishing labels is particularly important while the other machine is operating and product is moving through the line.

Check out our animated video of how the new 258 print/apply labeler works – it is perfect for printing and applying labels to you cases and trays, ensuring accurate labeling with the best GS1 barcode quality every time!

Twenty years ago (back in 2000), ID Technology launched a new label printer applicator model – the 250.

Until then, ID Technology had been a reseller of other OEMs products – the 250 being the first model designed and built by the company.

This new labeling system was more modular in construction when compared to competing equipment and was easy to use for both operators and mechanics – all at a competitive price.

A large number of customers agreed and the 250 became the best selling print and apply labeler in North America, with a range of applicator modules that enabled it to handle just about every labeling job.

Model 250 Label Printer Applicator

There are still many 250 systems operating – in labeling applications, despite the fact components in the electronics module are getting hard to find.

Today,  the successors of the 250, the ID Technology 252, 255 and 262 carry on the heritage of that original design and remain the best selling product line in the business.

Even more modular, with most adjustments eliminated, the new versions have an enhanced range of applicator modules that can handle even more applicators, at increasingly high speeds.

ID Technology labeling systems are certainly built to last and (when combined with our labels) offer a limited lifetime equipment warranty.

Celebrating 20 Years of Printer Applicator Manufacturing

Twenty years ago (back in 2000), ID Technology launched a new label printer applicator model – the 250.

Until then, ID Technology had been a reseller of other OEMs products – the 250 being the first model designed and built by the company.

This new labeling system was more modular in construction when compared to competing equipment and was easy to use for both operators and mechanics – all at a competitive price.

A large number of customers agreed and the 250 became the best selling print and apply labeler in North America, with a range of applicator modules that enabled it to handle just about every labeling job.

Celebrating 20 Years of Printer Applicator Manufacturing

Sure, we are having to deal with a major pandemic at the moment, but it doesn’t mean things have slowed when it comes to growing our business.

Our Filling Business Line has two new members this summer, with the acquisitions of Modern Packaging and Fogg Filler.

These are two highly respected organizations that when combined with our existing filling brands, Federal and Pacific, make ProMach a real leader in the filling equipment sector.

Modern Packaging specializes in filling products into cups and trays for the food and dairy industries. Products handled include yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese and many more.

The company was founded in 1989 and is located in Deer Park, NY – right in the middle of Long Island.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing Modern equipment as a part of Zarpac packaging lines and we’ve also noted that all those filled cups need date coding!

Fogg Filler, based in Holland, MI was founded in 1956, has grown to be a leader in liquid filling.

Fogg equipment handles a wide range of products including bottled water, antifreeze, dairy products, and much more. As well as stand-alone filling machines, Fogg also builds integrated systems that can include capping and labeling.

Seems to me this is a great fit with our existing products such as Zalkin cappers, PE Labellers, and Pace unscramblers.

Huge thanks to our Corporate Development team for keeping ProMach moving forward, even in the toughest of times! We are looking forward to working with our new colleagues.

Whatever your packaging equipment needs, we can get you connected with the right people – just send email to us IDT@ProMachBuilt.com or you can contact me directly: david.holliday@ProMachBuilt.com

PackExpo Connects 2020

Array ( [post_title] => PackExpo Connects 2020 [post_content] =>

So PMMI finally announced the cancelation of PackExpo in Chicago – to absolutely no one’s surprise.

For everyone’s health, this is obviously a good thing, and it is interesting to see that there will still be a PackExpo – the PackExpo Connects Virtual Event.

It is going to be really interesting to see how this comes together – virtual tradeshows are clearly not a complete replacement for the real thing, but PMMI is promising a mix of live chats, online demos and other features to make the event as complete and interactive as possible.

I think this will be like many there things – the more we all put into it (either as exhibitors or visitors) the better it will be for everyone.

Do you usually attend the physical PackExpo shows? If so, will you be checking out the virtual version?

For more info, check out the PackExpo website here: https://www.packexpointernational.com/

We’ll be providing more info on ProMach’s participation at PackExpo Connects before too long.

See you online!!

Improve Productivity, Sustainability with New Labels

Array ( [post_title] => Improve Productivity, Sustainability with New Labels [post_content] =>

Can changing the label material you use for your barcode labeling make a big difference to your operations?

It certainly can, if you switch to ID Technology’s new AutoSeries EX label stock.

AutoSeries EX is the new label product line from ID Technology – designed to enhance your print and apply labeling for secondary packaging and logistics.

Utilizing a smoother and denser liner, AutoSeries EX labels improve productivity, performance, and sustainability – all while using the same proven facesheet materials and adhesive weights, so there is no compromise on printing or application performance.

AutoSeries EX material is available for both thermal transfer and direct thermal printing and in standard paper as well as synthetics.

EX-tended Productivity

EX materials provide 20% more labels per roll, resulting in less downtime for label roll changes.

Stopping for label roll replenishment only takes a few minutes but it adds up over the course of a year.

The following example demonstrates the EX advantage benefit, when using a 4.000 X 6.000 label and a 14” OD roll configuration – based on 5 million labels per year.

Reduce Downtime With AutoSeries EX Labels

EX-tended Performance

EX materials utilize a smoother and denser liner.  These properties allow for more consistent diecut depth, cleaner label release, and less adhesive buildup over time.  Customers benefit from a higher-performing product and reduced maintenance requirements.

The die-cutting performance of AutoSeries EX helps us get you the possible quality labels – every time!

EX-tended Sustainability

As the need for environmental sustainability continues to increase, brands are looking for ways to make their operations greener.

Labels made from AutoSeries EX materials, yield a 30% reduction in label landfill waste – thanks to the thinner, denser liner.

In addition, winding more labels per roll allows more labels to be packed per pallet – translating to fewer shipments (and therefore reduced carbon emissions) per year.

Want to make an even bigger contribution to reducing landfill waste?

Consider switching to direct thermal labels as an alternative to thermal transfer. A company printing 5,000.000 4 x 6 inch thermal transfer labels per year is adding 2.5 million feet of ribbon waste to their local landfill per year!

Obviously using direct thermal labels also has the advantage of having one less consumable item (the thermal transfer ribbon) to change, reducing roll change time, and improving productivity.

Sometimes You Can Have it All!

Because the price of the new AutoSeries EX labels is unchanged from our conventional labels, our customers are in a great position to enjoy the advantages this new range of materials brings.

The existing features of our AutoSeries labels, clear leaders and trailers, label/ribbon kits for thermal transfer – matched lengths of label and ribbon rolls to reduce stoppages for replenishment and of course our Lifetime Limited Equipment Warranty for customers who use our labels on ID Technology labeling machines.

Want to get started? Contact your ID Technology sales manager or feel free to send me email to David.Holliday@ProMachBuilt.com

Get ready to improve your labeling efficiency and sustainability efforts!

Improve Productivity, Sustainability with New LabelsCan changing the label material you use for your barcode labeling make a big difference to your operations?
