It has just completed its first add on UV technology to a Roland 700 at Jaymar Packaging, Crewe.
IST (UK) will have LED heads on show and will have experts on hand to discuss UV technologies generally or bespoke applications as required. The Skipton-based supplier’s technology is widely used in packaging through its OEM work with Heidelberg, including installations at some of the largest groups like Graphic Packaging International and Multi Packaging Solutions.
“UV curing is well established in packaging and the UV lamp will continue to dominate in this market. LED UV (LUV) is our trademark for this technology) is enjoying growth but primarily in the commercial printing sector where varnishing effects are less common,” said Chris Schofiled, joint managing director. “Hybrid systems using both technologies have started to emerge. Packaging printers need to be aware of both technologies and their respective applications and benefits and we will welcome all comers and be happy to respond to any questions.”
IST (UK) will be happy to discuss the cost and time commitment required for a retrofit (typically 5-6 days for conventional UV and 1-2 days for LED-UV/LUV), the energy and maintenance requirements, lamp life and potential for use with low migration inks with each technology as well as the benefits each gives to the look and feel of a product and the turnround benefits of having work dry off the end of the press.
“Packaging Innovations is timed perfectly to give visitors a taste of things to come at Drupa. We are unusual in being able to offer conventional UV, LED-UV/LUV and LE-UV solutions and so can give a very objective and informed view of the relevance for different applications and markets,” said Mr Schofield.
