The print and packaging business is planning a number of large scale investments for the first quarter of this year, and is aiming to “further boost capacity and quality” at its Leicestershire site.
Qualvis produces cartons for numerous well-known brands.
The 7-station custom sized collator is suction fed horizontally and can accommodate a maximum sheet size of 541 x 830mm.
It is fitted with automatic miss and double sheet detectors to ensure the integrity of the collated sets, with output being in the region of 2,000 sets collated per hour or 14,000 sheets.
Col-Tec provides equipment for collating jobs, manufacturing highly versatile suction feed collators, booklet makers and associated optional equipment.
Richard Pacey, Qualvis creative design director, said the investment is part of a strategic move to diversify its core business offering, having also poured money into Qualvis Innovations, Qualvis Digital and a new KBA press.
“This latest addition just broadens our customer value proposition and opens up new markets for our business. From an efficiency angle, we used to have four staff hand collating sheets prior to the collator investment. Not only was this slow at 1,200 sheets collated per hour, we also had the potential for errors and misaligning the sheets. With the collator installed we have 2 staff feeding and delivering the sheets at a benchmark rate of 6,000 sheets per hour. This operational efficiency is alongside an improvement in quality and finishing.”
