The Scanstar 2016 packaging awards are organised by the Scandinavian Packaging Association (SPA), a body incorporating the national packaging organisations of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
Smurfit Kappa Denmark was awarded its Scanstar for new and improved transport packaging for sheets of bended aluminium, on behalf of waterproofing company Icopal.
The new design uses 24% less board reducing material costs and provides significant supply chain benefits by allowing the customer to transport 8 packs per pallet instead of 4, achieving a 100% increase in palletisation.
Smurfit Kappa Norway was awarded the Scanstar on behalf of Scandinavian Business Systems, for the winning design of a corrugated inlay which forms part of a transport pack for chairs and replaces polystyrene.
The new inlay is 100% recyclable and made from a renewable resource making it a more sustainable solution.
